Shanghai has become an air express delivery port for China and the Asia Pacific region, with the number of air express deliveries in the first seven months of the year really taking off, according to the Shanghai Customs International Express Mail Control Center.
From January to July, the center reported huge increases over last year of express cargo leaving or entering the city: a total of 10.94 million pieces (up 24 percent), weighing 68,000 tons (up 55 percent).
Thirty-one express delivery companies from both home and abroad have established presences in the city, including four giants (UPS, FedEx, TNT and DHL) which consider the Shanghai port their distribution and handling center on the Chinese Mainland.
Since the Shanghai Customs International Express Mail Control Center began operations on August 9, 2001, the city has registered a more than 40-percent growth in handling express cargos every year.
